Title

Subject

Tarpon Springs, Greek community, people participating in Epiphany celebration

Description

The image of an Epiphany procession from the early 1920s shows the dove bearer on the left. From 1920 to 1934 the dove bearer was Kostas Tsimpikas from Halki. In 1935, the Byzantine choir started the tradition of electing a young girl as the annual dove bearer. To the right of the dove bearer is Father Theophilos Karaphillis. The clergyman in the center is Reverend Lacey. Depending on the date, on the right may be Archbishop Alexandros (1876-1942), the first leader of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America, which was formed in May 1922.
